EMDR Intensive Therapy: In-Person or Telehealth

One of the most common questions about Intensives is whether they can really work over telehealth. In my practice, the answer has been a clear yes.

EMDR delivered through a secure, HIPAA-conscious telehealth platform uses the same protocol as in-person work. Bilateral stimulation is delivered visually on screen, or through self-administered tactile methods such as the butterfly hug, with the same attention to pacing and containment.

What telehealth adds is context. You are in your own room, with your own blanket, your own tea, your own dog at your feet. After six hours of demanding emotional work, you do not have to drive home. You close the laptop and you are already there.

Telehealth also removes geography. Clients across Ohio can access Intensive work without arranging travel or overnight stays.

Since COVID, I’ve been offering remote EMDR and am amazed at the results. If you are unsure whether the format will suit you, we can talk it through in a consultation before you commit.
